I love Tapas, it’s incredible. I love the sharing, caring feeling it gives me, and always makes me happy. It gives me that warm glow, I know that if I am having Tapas I am obviously with friends (I would’t share my food with just anyone – think Joey from Friends)
Baresca isn’t somewhere I have been previously, and I have no idea why!
My friend and I went pre theatre, as it was close by and we were in a rush. We figured that Tapas is usually quick and comes out as and when it’s ready and this was no exception.
We didn’t really know where to start as everything sounds incredible, and so opted for the ‘menu del dia’
There is so much to choose from, even on this menu. Everything from chicken wings to pork sliders and Miso Salmon to aubergine, chick pea and tomato tagine is available, and you order flatbread with dips and then choose two tapas dishes and 1 side. There were two of us, so double the fun!
The flatbread came out within seconds, and was toasted perfectly, a golden crispy starter as we waited for the other food to arrive. The hummus dip wasn’t to my taste but the carrot & toasted cumin was scrummy.
We didn’t wait long for the rest of the food to come out, at a guess I would say a new dish was presented every couple of minutes.
I opted for the baby chorizo in a honey and sherry vinegar glaze. This was delicious! The sauce reminded me of toffee apples, and as it cooled it went really hard and sticky, like toffee.
We chose to share the patatas bravas to accompany it, along with the padron peppers. The tomato sauce was flavoursome and there was just the right amount. The potatoes were seasoned beautifully and crisp and fluffy.
The padron peppers were coated in salt and tasted amazing, hot and salty and full of flavour. I also had the devilled whitebait with aioli, super fishy, very lightly battered and tasted amazing.
My friend opted for the carrot and courgette fritters with a coriander and lime yoghurt. I would have preferred yoghurt but that is my only criticism. The batter was light and crisp and the dip really went well. The mushroom risoni rice was her other choice. She said is was lovely however as it has parmesan I didn’t try it.
Unfortunately we couldn’t stay for dessert as we were due at the theatre and time was running out. However we did get doggy bags so that we could finish for the following days lunch!
