The Slug & Lettuce – Derby

I nipped out on my lunch break today to the Slug and Lettuce in Derby to see my lovely friend Emily. We chose it as it was convenient for me, cheap as chips on a week day and Emily promised the food was good. It was fairly busy when we arrived, but we bagged a seat near the open door at the back – perfect planning as its was 28 degrees today!

The decor really is lovely, wooden floors, grey walls and lovely lighting. It’s also not cramped and we grabbed a table far from anyone else for a good natter.

The bar is huge and well stocked but unfortunately as it was lunch time we couldn’t partake in afternoon drinking.

It’s half price on all food on a Monday, and as we are off to Thailand with some friends in November it needed to be cheap!

I opted for the BBQ pulled pork burrito with spicy rice, mixed peppers, onion and guacamole in a wheatbran wrap. I left out the soured cream and cheeses. It came wrapped in foil with sweet potato fries.

I was so disappointed to find roughly a tablespoon of pulled pork in my 6-8in wrap. It was full of rice but the reason I ordered it was because of the pork.

I complained and in about 30 seconds they had given me more. I then just added it in to the wrap. I know it’s half price on a Monday, but if I had paid full price I would have been seriously pissed.

Anyway, mistake rectified, I proceeded to eat it. It was delicious! The rice was spicy, the pork so tasty and the peppers and onion cooked perfectly.

I’ll definitely go back for more – fantastic value (with the added pork) tasty, quick and a gorgeous venue.
