The York Roast Co – York

It was cold and wet in York on Sunday, so, looking for somewhere to duck into, Eleanor and I practically ran into The York Roast Co for a bite to eat.

We had walked past the window of it a few times over the course of the last couple of days, gazing in through the window at the lovely looking roasted meats displayed.

Situated on Low Petergate, right in the heart of the city, is a place serving probably the best roast dinner I have ever had. I usually shy away from having a roast dinner anywhere other than home as I feel a home-cooked roast beats all!

They offered a choice of roast beef, pork, turkey or ham. This was accompanied by seasonal veg, stuffing and potatoes along with amazing gravy. For a little extra you could also add crackling or more of anything else.

We both opted for the full roast dinner, and both went for pork. Oh my goodness, the pork was beautifully cooked. So moist and tender and full of flavour. The stuffing was great (and I bought an extra 5 with gravy) and the yorkies were perfect. I admit I don’t cook my own (shock) and I was so envious of these. The gravy was meaty and delicate and awesome! The only downside was that the potatoes weren’t crispy, however that is probably to be expected. We arrived just before the lunchtime rush so I guess they had been cooked for a while in anticipation.

They also offer a ‘yorkypud’, a giant Yorkshire wrap with your choice of filling! Great for on the go!

At just under a tenner each for a roast and a drink it was spot on. I wish I was local as this would be my go to place for a Sunday roast. They also do a loyalty card (I love a card!) and Deliveroo also deliver it! There would be no need to cook a roast EVER again if I lived in York! There was a MASSIVE queue as we were leaving, the locals obviously like it too as they waited in the rain!
