Bills – Nottingham

A fair few weeks ago now, my friends and I went for brunch at Bills Restaurant on Queens Street in the city centre. I had an amazing lunch there last year, and knowing they did a breakfast menu too, we hopped on over.

I love the decor of this place, and the atmosphere is always really friendly. It is lovely to see groups of friends or families together. The exposed piping (vents? No idea) is really cool overhead and I love the mismatch of chairs.

Between us we went for the Bills Breakfast, buttermilk pancakes and eggs Royale.

The bills breakfast consisted of a lovely runny egg, two sausages, smoked streaky bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and a thick slice of toast. The bacon was lovely, as were the sausages (although a little burnt) and the mushrooms were great. I asked for no tomatoes but got them anyway – didn’t matter as a friend ate them instead. I would have loved double the portion of beans as I love my toast soaked in them.

The buttermilk pancakes came with bacon and ‘Bills pancake syrup’ and were light and fluffy. The bacon was perfectly crisped, just how I like it.

The eggs royal; smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce and seeds, served on an English muffin were lovely too. They were lovely and runny (I have never cooked a poached egg well enough for it to be totally runny) and the sauce was amazing.

At a tenner each including a drink, it wasn’t the cheapest I have had, but you can’t fault the quality.
