Notts Tweet Up – Revolucion De Cuba – Nottingham

I have been following @NottsTweetUp on twitter for months, intrigued as to what it was all about and whether I should head along. I haven’t been running my twitter account for very long and my following is far smaller than my blog, so I wasn’t sure if it was something I could get involved with.

After one of the organisers, @adamhayes900 used the hashtag #intuNottsBloggers (which I am very luckily a part of) to reach out to us group of bloggers for thier #TacoTweetUp event, it felt safe to say that I could attend. The only requirement for joining the tweet up is that you have a twitter account and use it!

July’s meet up was hosted by the lovely guys at Revolucion De Cuba, and they very kindly provided tacos and Vedett beer to help the night go smoothly.

I do a lot of networking in my job, and sometimes I can feel uncomfortable approaching people. It’s weird, a massive part of my job is meeting new people every single day, but get me to a networking event and I kind of freeze. It is definitely something I need to work on.

I was welcomed by Adam and @deborahstar (the organisers), told to grab a drink and start chatting. I was surprised at how diverse the crowd was, from marketing managers, PR companies, a professional photographer, company directors… The other thing that amazed me was that every single person I spoke to was lovely! It was incredibly social, it was so easy to make conversation, and everyone seemed genuinely interested to speak to me. I am sure the beer helped haha.

The food was amazing. I go to De Cuba a lot on my lunch break as their service is quick and their food is always great. I was silly and forgot to let Adam know that I was lactose intolerant prior to the event, however upon arrival he mentioned it to the De Cuba guys and cheese free tacos were bought out to me. I also noticed that other people with dietary requirements were catered for, which was fantastic, and hugely appreciated.

The other fantastic thing about the event is that there is a huge chalkboard present, and you can each write down your twitter handle. It is a great way to grow your network, whilst meeting a plethora of different people, and enjoying a beer… or three.

To be honest, I was having so much fun that I didn’t really take any photos, sorry!

The last event was on Friday 28th July at Revolucion De Cuba. Keep your eyes peeled on the @NottsTweetUp page for the August one, and I hope to see you there!
