Zaap Thai – Nottingham

Having spent 3 weeks in Thailand back in November, I was craving a taste of Thai yesterday lunchtime. Thai food is something I hadn’t really explored much before last year, but my holiday obviously changed that! I can’t handle a lot of heat in my food and it had made me reluctant to try new things in case my mouth exploded due to the chilli! Stupid really!

Zaap Thai is located at Bromley Place, just off Maid Marian way and is the epitome of Thailand in my opinion.

As soon as I walked into the restaurant, the neon lights and Tuk Tuks transported me right back to Khao San Road.

With an open kitchen in the centre of the restaurant you can watch all the action as the chefs prepare the dishes.

The three of us were seated in a Tuk Tuk booth, and perusing the menu I wanted just about everything!

We ordered starters of Kiew Tod (crispy wantons, me) Gai Satay (chicken skewers with peanut sauce, Kristian) and Poh Pia Tod (vegetable spring rolls, Mark). They were all spectacular. Piping hot and delicious, and incredibly authentic to what I remember in Thailand. My favourite was actually Kristian’s Satay which was annoying as I didn’t order them! The peanut sauce was lovely and crunchy and the chicken was succulent. All round 10/10 for the starters.

On to mains and I ordered the Gang Ped Gai (red Thai curry with chicken). This was a little spicier than I anticipated but wasn’t unmanageable. The curry was sweet and full of flavour, with huge chunks of chicken and peppers. The rice was properly sticky and easy to eat with chop sticks.

Kristian ordered the Pad Thai Bo Ran. Oh my god this was amazing! Crunchy peanuts, thick noodles and chunky chicken pieces. Just like Thailand.

Mark ordered Suki Nam Gai (stir fried glass noodles with chicken, vegetables and egg) and said it was beautiful.

If you’re looking for bona fide Thai food, in an authentic setting, look no further than Zaap Thai. Plus they do a lunch deal for £10. Choice of two starters and two mains. Perfect for a cheeky Friday lunch with the work guys!
